Health and Fitness

We are all familiar with the downward spiral that leaves many of us unhappy, overweight, tired, sick and depressed. We don't like what we look like on the outside or how we feel on the inside, so we hide and hibernate. Not moving, standing still. It makes us feel better to eat. And not just anything, you know, ice cream, cake, brownies, cookies, the kids leftovers, in your car french fries, soda, big-mac, candy bar, and anything "Hostess." During our indulgence we may feel justified and even good about our attempt to eat away our stress and pain, but afterwards we only feel worse. Then we are on the downward spiral. GET OUT OF IT!!! NOW!

If we strive to be healthy on the inside it will show on the outside. When we are in good health we usually look better, feel better and do better. We have more energy, a positive attitude and more often we do good deeds for others and get more done for ourselves. Good health and fitness go hand and hand. Some one who moves and exercises on a regular basis reduces their chance of heart attack, stroke, high cholesterol, diabetes, memory loss and Alzheimer. When we exercise we are working toward better health. This usually inspires most to make a better choice when it comes to eating. Why put something in your body that will work against all the hard work of exercise you've done earlier?

I have also found that if I try to take care of my outward appearance I feel better about myself and want to take better care of myself, my whole self. This may spark my desire to recommit myself to going to the gym and eat fewer calories. Then I am taking care of my inside health and because of doing so I see the results on the outside. When I see the results on the outside it gives me more incentive to do more exercise and to continue to eat well. It has now become an upward spiral of cause and effect that I am happy with.

Being fit does not mean you should be able to compete in a triathlon or weight lifting competition. It only means you should be suitability or appropriately fit enough to move at a moderate speed for 20- 30 minutes without having to be hospitalized. I don't know about you, but I want to be more than fit!

Decide - Make a choice everyday to do something for yourself
Plan - Everyday you should know what your plan is: Exercise, meals and downtime
Do - Move more and exercise regularly
Food - Choose wisely what you eat
Supplements - Fish oil, Vitamin D, Omega 3

Just Decide

There is a lot of power in making a decision! It means you are tired of riding the fence of uncertainty and now you are able to move forward. If you are contemplating your health it means you have taken an evaluation of yourself and discovered that you are not where you should be or where you want to be. Possibly your doctor has just told you to get on medication for high cholesterol or diabetes. Perhaps you are continually pulling a smaller size off the rack to try on because you can't fathom that you are three sizes bigger than you remember. Maybe you woke up today and realized it's your birthday. Remember when you were a child and people would ask you if you felt any older on your birthday, well now you can say, "I not only feel older and I look older too!"
Whatever the reason you have been pushed to make a decision. Say it out loud, "I've decided to make some changes in my life!" "I just decided to do something new today!" When it comes to making a change it is not "the thought that counts." It's the action that follows the thought that will make all the difference for you. But first, you must decide that you are ready to do. Now go and do, act, move!

I'll Start Tomorrow

How many times have I said, "Oh, I need to stop eating like this, exercise and lose weight! I'll start tomorrow." I know I have said this too many times. Then again, I hope I say it many more times because everyday I need to make the decision to start again. Everyday I can do one more thing to take care of myself. I am constantly trying to be more fit, healthier and accomplish a better overall well-being. There are many aspects of health and I would like to work on being whole inside and out.
So, I will start tomorrow and hopefully the day after that and the day after that...
Let's start tomorrow!
